Yesterday i forgot to push the "trac off" button on the Cobra, finally experienced the feeling of it engaging. WOW, I thought I broke something. The car felt like it lost total power, I had visions of big $$ repairs. Whew, found out that's what it feels like. Anyone else have this happen before you knew what it was??

Yep, I had it happen back when I first got my car. It's been turned off in the tune ever since.

...Mine is always turned off in the tune...as is most!

TRACTION CONTROL is Ford's name for its electronic braking and engine control system that monitors rear wheel slippage and prevents loss of traction when accelerating. If a Mustang has traction control, it must also have 4-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS). Traction control consists of all the components of the ABS system, plus a powertrain control module (PCM) and a traction control ON/OFF switch. Here's how it works:
When traction control is turned on, the PCM monitors the speed sensors at the wheels and at the transmission and compares rear wheel speed to the car’s road speed. If the rear wheel speed exceeds road speed (loss of traction) the PCM slows the rear wheels until they regain grip. It does that either by applying ABS braking to the rear wheels to slow them down, or by sending less fuel to the engine, which has the same effect. Traction Control is optional on all models except the Cobra. The Cobra has Traction Control as standard equipment.

That's the little thing that makes my car run great when i go from sea level here (or close to it) to 5000 feet up in the mountains. When I take my Shelby to Tahoe it runs terrible, low idle and hard to start, can't wait to come down the hill and let it breath again. haha

I had it scare me one time turning into traffic. I was pretty sure I was going to get hit. The worst one was forgetting to turn it off at the track. Hard to heat up the tires with traction control on.:52:

I experience that feeling evertime I drive my car. Until the Ice melt and it is officially springtime here, traction control has to stay on if i wanna keep my car 100% safe and not off a cliff or in a ditch lol

i forgot to push the off button once at the track.. launching on the 125 shot @5200 with the tcs on did nothing to the launch. i still managed a 1.62 60' ft. on M.T. E.T. STREET DRAGS. lol

Same here. I only miss it on rainy days like the ones we have been experiencing here in L.A. lately!

Yup! I know the feeling. My buddy bought a 79 F350 4x4 in Lewiston Idaho two years ago. I flew to pick it up and drove it home. Coming down the Oregon backroads and the 15 through Utah was an experience!

I thought I was going to have a wounded truck :shuriken:

My T.C. is off and I had to drive my baby in the rain and the M/T ET Street Dragradials didn't do to good driving over 65mpn in the fwy. I literally had to drive at 50, while everyone else passed me up! They seem to wanna spin in the water lol

I HIGHLY advise against driving in the rain on DRs. There are WAY WAY WAY too many posts made EVERY year on SVTP by Terminator owners who hydroplaned on DRs... and totaled their cars, doing nothing but driving at normal speeds.

Yeah I agree. I kept my car in 5th gear the whole time @ 50mph. I can only imagine how hard it is to drive those high hp termi.'s in the rain. Which reminds me. A friend of mine from our carclub went sideways on the off ramp in the 110fwy and hit the wall in his 03 Cobra. He was also driving slow and on Nitto 555Rs.

50mph, you say? Check this thread out. It's one of many.. but, at 50mph exactly....

that sucks he wrecked the car while driving on dragradials. I have to thank god for not hydroplaning @ 50.You never know what can happen next once you lose control in the rain.

I guess one of the benefits of not having a twin screw. I can drive mine in the rain with no problems. I've been on drag radials for 2 years now with no problems. The belt on the other hand is another story.

Keep in mind none of those twin screw Drag Radial wrecks were under boost when they crashed. They were simply driving at normal speeds. Power has nothing to do with it in the rain. DRs even come with wet weather warnings. If you choose to drive on DRs in the rain..... it's just increasing the odds of you having an accident. I would hate to see a thread posted with even one more car totaled.

I did a traction control delete. lol

I disabled my traction control w/ my tuner and put in a 03 10th anniversary shifter bezel in replacement of the 99 shifter bezel w/ a traction control button. This happened after I went down the Qtr and forgot to hit the traction control button. It will never happen again now : P

Mine is my daily driver. So I have to drive it rain or shine.

my fox doesn't go out in the rain. I'm on DR's and my CAI as well as my MAF sensor are located inside my fenderwall. That's when I dust off my 94 hp honduh "daily driver" that I never drive.

I like to think mine don't do the rain either, but they get caught in it occassionally.
