View Full Version : JLT CAI vs RAI
Well we know a few things already before we start the debate.
The RAI is easier to install/clean
The CAI makes a bit more power.
Im running the JLT RAI and im making 19lbs of boost.
Im thinking of upgrading to there High Boost CAI.
Would it be wise to switch over to the high boost CAI ?
The reason im considering this is because in theory bringing in cooler air should make the setup a tad bit more efficient vs hot air being pulled from the engine bay.
I do remove the headlight at the track though, it might be helping or might not.
Just really considering this upgrade.
Thanks

There is a problem with this debate as a whole. So many people do dyno's with their hoods open making the RAI equal to a CAI. I have seen very very few that do close hood dynos.
Problems with CAI:
If on the passenger side you have the intercooler pump and hoses in the way.
A CAI has 2 90-degree bends. Depending where your MAF is can cause reading problems. Also slows down air flow.
Problems with RAI:
hard to totally close off from engine compartment. Can get increased engine temps which usually hurt power. They are a straight shot and when you remove the passenger side head light you have a straight shot of cool ram air.
Things that help both is that people run tubing from the two wholes next to the fog lights in the 03-04 Cobra bumper and dump them at the air filter. This forcing cool air there is very helpful once going. Not too helpful when sitting still on the dyno.
A few weeks ago I had my cobra on the dyno with the hood closed and opened....
Difference was 10hp less closed !
I spoke to Jay at JLT today and he was telling me the fans used to dyno our cars cannot compare to real time/air coming into our cars.
And Jay advised me to just keep my Rai vs upgrading to his High Boost Cai.

Another problem with the CAI is that when ppl drive on the street it gets dirty faster then the RAI.
