So I put on new wheels last week. Wheels look cool and fit good on the cobra. As soon as drove away, the cobra started squeaking. Squeak squeak squeak. The squeaking would stop as soon as I applied the brakes. Then it would come back as I would drive. Took the Cobra back home and took off the wheels and inspected the brakes. Brakes where good with plenty of meat left on them. A week later, I took the wheels off again to see if I could figure out what was squeaking. I couldn't figure it out. When I went to mount the wheels back on, I notice they wouldn't mount flush to the rotors. Then I found the problem. The little washer that goes over the wheel stud to hold the rotor. The oem wheels are machined to fit over the washer and my new wheels are not. Removed the washers from all four corner and the squeak went away.
All I want to say is Stupid Washer!!!:cus:

One question was it specific wheel or all of them? I have the same noise but it just my right rear wheel I'll have to check on those washers, cause I haven't figured it out yet. Thanks for the info I hope it works for me!!

I wonder how that would cause the squeeking? Wasn't the washer being pressed against the rotor?

Most of the squeaking came from the front passenger side. That side only had 1 washer while the other side had 2 washers. I think the thickness of that one washer throw off the angle of the wheel enough to cause it to be unbalanced.

It always amazed me as a mechanic how something like this... a tiny, thin, washer... could cause such an annoying noise.

What also always amazed me is what great lengths we tore cars apart to find those dumb little things which caused stupid noises! LOL
