I was talkin to a buddy of mine who is lookin to buy a Termi and he found one but the guy who owns it says it needs a new crankshaft pulley from ford and it is $943.xx. He sent this to me with what the guy said about it "The pulley that it needs, it located next to the lower tensioner pulley that both sit on a bracket. Its the biggest pulley on the supercharger line that's located at the bottom of the motor. The pulley itself is 110 dollars, however it sits on an arm that also holds the tensioner pulley, and in order to fix this issue it needs a whole new arm, ford has designed the pulley in such a way that it cannot be replaced unless you replace the whole arm, thus making the part 943.xx and some change."
what do you guys think? Any advice would be appreciated so I can help my buddy make the best decision.

the 03-04 cobras have interchangeable crank pulley kits, i think metco makes the kit, its about 299-399 depending on what crank you want this regulates(changes) psi of supercharger if changed too. if this is what you are talking about, but what happen to the original one, did it broke or the guy had one of those and decided to remove to sell on side or what is the issue, if you can explain a bit more maybe we can help...

If it is in fact the stock crank pulley, he can find them all over used for <$100. Or he can do like stated above and go aftermarket for an interchangable one.
The lower pulley does have "arms" but im interested to see exactly what he's talking about.
Does the car run Matt?

its hard to give advice if we dont know what the problem it is... and the stock ones i seen them go for like 40 on ebay..just got to search for one, there are all over at certain times... but me i will rather go with aftermarket just in case later decided to up the boost, dont spend money on something that might need replacing later

It sounds to me like Matt doesn't have much more info to give... I mean, it's on a car a buddy of his wants to maybe buy.
Sounds fishy to me if the seller is saying it needs over $900 worth of repairs. He needs to get it fixed, and then maybe adjust his price.

Have your buddy offer $1000 less and fix it himself.....

Ok sorry guys for the lack of info, but i'm getting it piece by piece. I went and checked the car out with him last night. The car does drive and run, but the pulley is wobbling and makes a loud squeaking type sound. I honestly don't know alot about these termi motors so I asked you guys. Sorry for the crappy description of advice but I will try to answer what I can.

Or this?: Metco Interchangeable

The aftermarket ones have been known to wobble due to improper installation. If severe enough, it could snap the crank snout.

yea it's the stock crank pulley...and the car is able to drive but it's just a constant squeak and it's wobbling...could it become wobbly over time or would it wobble due to something else?

I've never heard of a stock one failing. If the car is relatively low mile... it would be really odd for it to fail too.

Yes stock ones can fail, not common but it happens. I have a sneaky suspision that the owner probably had an aftermarket one on didn't properly install the stock one. They thread on (reverse thread) to the front of the balancer and those arms/brackets help stablize it.
The crank snout could be bent, the stock pulley could of been cross threaded back on, or its loose as hell and its missing bolts that attach the arms.
I would check for anything very obvious, then pull the belt and remove pulley, start up the car and see if the crank snout is bent (you can run the car without the blower and alternator).

I agree with svt gi. Chances are he had an aftermarket lower and at some point swapped it out for the stock. Just have to make sure it was installed correctly. Also some belts just sqeel.

well some good news...i told him to do what you said SVT GI, he checked the crank snout and it isn't bent...He asked if he had an aftermarket lower on before and then swapped back to the stocker and he said he had a 4lb lower on before and then went back to the stocker. He is taking it to this mechanic on tuesday so I will let you know if there is anything else that he finds. The question that I'm asking now is if he puts another stocker on would he still have to buy that arm that stabilizes it or should it fit with just a new stock crank pulley?

Thats good ews that the crank is not bent! However, tell your buddy and the owner not to screw around with the car too much because excessive wobble can cause the snout to become bent.
The stock lower pulley setup mostly come as the picture I posted, there is nothing else to buy to install it other than any missing bolts. I would ditch the stock one he has now for good measure and pick up another one. They are plentyfull especially in your area. Maybe contact Greg @ RET to see if any of his customers have one laying around. I had 2 of them but sold them so I wouldn't have to pack them when we moved.
