Well a lot of you already know about my car and the build going on...so I'll be constantly updating this thread with pictures so everyone can see what's going on with the turbo build.

A little background...as some know the car used to have a 2.3L whipple on it. The longblock has 10k miles on it and we thought the head gasket blew, so I decided to yank the engine. At the same time I found an amazing deal on a used HP kit with only 500 miles on it. So I jumped on it. I bought the kit and sold the whipple. So over the past month or so I've had a ton of parts coming in!

It's the HP 57mm twin turbo kit with a custom oil sump and Mocal fluid pump for oil return, also the turbos are also set up with step ring seals, and the throttle body inlet pipe is upgraded to a Vortech hard pipe. It also has upgrade Turbonetics Raptor blow-off valves and Tial 38mm wastegates

Now for the pictures!

Here's the day I picked up the turbo kit! I was soo stoked!

Here are all the 01 cobra parts that I had powder coated flat black. Here you see the 01 upper and lower intake, the valve covers, timing cover, all the cold side piping, coolant crossover tube and the Vortech hard pipe. All I'm waiting on is the brackets for the alternator, the throttle body, and the tensioner. The coil covers I'm leaving the stock color since. Ever since I saw a pic of them against black valve covers I've loved the look!

So I had LONG *** wait and a bunch of bs I had to deal with regarding the turbo headers and such

If you would like to hear some of the headaches I went through and why it has taken so long I can let you guys know, but I know some don't care at all, so unless you guys wanna hear about the setbacks I won't list them haha. If interested you can also check out my other thread to see my biggest setback: http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/terminator-talk-229/645182-hp-customer-service.html. I ended up letting them know I will never do business again and I will do my best to make sure EVERYONE never does business with them.

So the LAST part I need were the turbo headers (part of the fiasco):

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/P1010686.jpg

I towed the cobra to Greg @ RET last Friday and he bega putting EVERYTHING together on Monday!

Greg picked the engine up and put it together, sent me this pic...cell phone pic sorry...felpro head gaskets with alll APR hardware:
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/mymotor.jpg

Here's a couple other parts I ordered as well:

I didn't NEED new couplers and such, but wanted brand new ones since I'm going all out. Had to deal with HP's bull**** ordering this stuff again and told them to refund my money. Ordered these through another place and got them withing 3 days

My new MAF...VMP tuning PMAS HPX with pigtail direct-connect wiring and a nice 75mm blow through tube
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/P1010683.jpg

Went over there yesterday and got a couple new pics...sorry for crappy quality it's off my cellphone. Sorry it's all a little dusty too and the cobra emblem for the intake is sitting at home...I'll be throwing it on once everything is done!

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/3.jpg

Stopped by again today and helped put the engine in as well....all the suspension is done...kmember, a-arms, coilover, C/C plates and the engine is in! I'll take a lot better pics in the next day or so! For now here's two really crappy cell phone pics! Sorry about the last one of it in the car, it was dark when we got it in.

Thanks guys! I will be going over there tomorrow and hopefully getting pics of all the fuel system as that's in now. They had to stop working on it since my stupid head cooling mod took FOREVER to get here. But suspensions done, fuel system is done, and engine is in now, it's sitting on four wheels! All that's left is the turbo system and wiring it all up!! :) I'll update with a ton of pics next week guys!!

So to keep you guys appeased I'll give you the history of my baby through pics! Since I have a DD Mazdaspeed3 the guys on a mazda forum wanted to know all about my car so I posted this up for them. Oh and check out the vid of my exhaust combo that many love :) Gave many people the idea go this way on SVTP since I posted it a few years back...Had many people tell me it's the best sounding cobra they've ever heard :) Here you go:

In the beginning I bought the car with 20,000 miles on it back in January of 2006. Got a steal on it and it already had a magnaflow catback on it and a Steeda ram air intake. Right away I hit the ground running and started the mods...beginning with the interior. I threw in a three-pod pillar with autometer cobalt gauges...air-fuel ratio, boost, and oil temperature.
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/img006.jpg
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/Pictures033.jpg

I threw in an MGW short-throw shifter, and put the 10th anniversary shift boot and knob on as well. I painted my interior panels, and since I was a car audio installer I threw in the alpine IVA-D310 flip out in dash stereo with Infinity Kappa components all around and my Rockford P3 12" sub with my amp and capacitor in a custom box I made.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/DSCN0446.jpg

I then threw in 10,000k HID headlights and foglights
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/Pictures026.jpg
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/Pictures018.jpg

I lowered the car, threw on new 17" wheels, a CDC light bar, and smoked the tail-lights
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/DSCN0339-1.jpg
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/DSCN0335.jpg

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/DSCN0462.jpg

Well driving around with 400rwhp is really fun, but I wanted more power after having that on for a couple months. So I sent the blower out to Steigemeier and had them do a stage 4 port on it as well as port the throttle body and plenum. I bought a 2.93 upper pulley and ilders from billetflow, a 4lb lower crank pulley, new intercooler and radiator tanks, and a new larger heat exchanger (it looks like an intercooler and sits in the lower grille of our cars). I had a custom dyno tune and had the boost at 17psi and put out 509rwhp and 507rwtq!

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/Brandongraph.jpg

At this point I loved the exhaust sound...loud when I got on it but still partially soft and had a good sound when driving normal. I decided I wanted that mean loud muscle car sound all the time though, so I cut off the regular magnaflow mufflers and had magnaflow magnapacks welded in and it sounded SO sick! here's what it sounds like:

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/DSCN0474.jpg

2003 Cobra with Magnapacks Video by Brandon - MySpace Video (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=2037671561)

Having all that power was awesome, but 6 months down the road I wanted more. So I sold the blower and a couple other parts and bought a Whipple 2.3L twin screw supercharger, 315-18-30 BFG Drag Radials, 60lb injectors, a 2lb lower crank pulley, a SCT BA2600 MAF, a accufab single blade throttle body, and smoked headlights. I had it all put on and put out 17lbs again and made 586rwhp and 567rwtq! This was insaneee. BTW, don't mind the ugly stock tensioner pulley, I took those pics when I was trying to find a squeaking idler and used the stock on to see if that was the one squeaking.

At this point I wanted to start taking it to the track...so I started doing weight modifications. I yanked everythinggg out of the trunk. I sold the upgraded speakers and deck I had in the car and returned that all to stock and took out the sub. I then yanked out all the seats inside, threw in a rear seat delete kit and bought some corbeau TRS racing seats and threw those in as well. While I was at it I got bored of the silver interior pieces so i painted those black to match the car and I have no also taken out the light bar so I can throw a roll cage in later! I also bought some 18x10.5" wheels and sold the 17s so I could throw on the 315 drag radials!

So I had the whipple on for about 6 months and since the car was a weekend car I only put about 500miles on it. Well a little bit ago my water pump and oil cooler went out...so I wanted to make sure it wasn't my head gasket either...so I had the engine yanked, and while it was out I decided to go ahead with what I always wanted to do to the car....twin turbo it! So I sold the whipple and ALL the parts I had purchased before and bought an HP 57mm twin turbo kit. I bought the 2001 cobra parts needed for the twin turbo kit as well....from who you ask?? Oh yeah just my buddy Jose aka Tr3mor haha

We were talking at the shop how people complain about shops taking a long time for a build. I am making a thread about how we shops get slowed up because no parts the customer brings are here :willynilly: lol

Brandon trans is in along with the clutch that will get blown through :hammer: We can now start installing the rest of the hot side, hopefully HP built the kit some what close to fit. Swing by tomorrow....

I'm alittle worried that at our local 1/8th mile track mine is going to do the same thing yours did on the topend in that vid. Its done it before, with 200rwhp less, and the track prep is usually crap..

Another update!

So most of the cold side is on...have all the oil lines ran...scavenge pump is in...just have to get the top side done now and tweak a couple things like in most kits, but overall it's coming along nicely! I figure it will be done in about 10-12 days!

Top side...don't mind some of the harnesses hanging, everything will be placed real tight when it's all on :rolling: I loveee the look of the fuel line :)

Little update! Car's coming along...just waiting on a few little things that are already on their way and should be here by tuesday...the idlers and tensioner, the alternator pigtail, and the fuel rail pressure sensor. Also I bought a new power steering resevoir to get the ugly stock one out of the way and am going to purchase a moroso oil breather as well

Oh and I forgot to mention I have brand new "powere by ford" coil covers on their way and I'm getting rid of the blue coupler and getting a black one as well

Alright, so for those of you who are actually still interested here's an update! Sorry it has taken so long but there have been soooo many more things I needed to buy and order for it! New parts I just purchased are a battery relocation kit to put the battery in the trunk and a Moroso oil breather to catch the oil coming from the valve covers...they will be connected to the oil breather with all fragola lines and fittings :)

So here's some pics of what it looks like now...I just need the alternator pigtail, vaccuum lines ran, and the rest of the boost controller wired and it's all good to go!
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r48/lacrossplayr5/P1010759.jpg

Here's a few things I'm changing...the are circled in the bottom left is the MAF housing and I just dropped that off to get powder-coated flat black as well. Also the blue connector to the throttle body is getting changed to a black one!

hey cobramac, quick question, I know its off topic but your car build is nice, hence the question, I see you have been experimenting with different stuff for your car, I currently have the eaton ported, but looking for more power, looking at a kenne bell or whipple, but not sure if you think is worth the money or you would recommend me to save it and spend it on a turbo build, just want to know if the upgrading of the eaton to a kenne or whipple is worth it, or just a waste, since i see some people selling them and going a different route but dont find people to ask honest opinions....thanks, sorry for asking on the post but cant email yet, since im new to site...

Hey no worries at all man....see the reason I went with the turbos was because from day 1 I had always wanted to twin turbo it. I wanted more power when I had the eaton but didn't have the money to go TT so I went with the whipple. If you're willing to spend a ton of money though, then go the TT route (I've spent over $15k easily already). I suggest going with a Whipple or KB though...it will definitely be a ton of power (more than you can use on the streets even) and they're a ton of fun!

So a little update....started the car again and was smoking a bunch...checked the scavenge pump and found out that was the issue...it's not working. So the guy I just bought a new one literally a minute ago, and the shop that sold me the kit will be getting a nice telephone call from me tomorrow.

I was at RET today and saw your car in the back getting the downpipe finished up. They were going to fire it up to move it back over but the battery was dead LOL. Oh well, Greg fixed my idle issue so now im a happy camper and had a blast on my 3 hr drive back home.

It looks like it won't be too long before you get some numbers out of it.

So..... should we tell them about the 99.99999999999% its always mechanical :rolleye0018:

Yeah Brandon just needs a working scavenge pump and its ready for the dyno. If his was working it would be on the dyno today. Also need to put on bumpsteer to clear the piping.

The rain last week slowed things down. Welding in the rain isnt good lol Since it was sitting we decided to go return fuel.

cobramac
02-08-2010, 02:23 PM
So got an update for everyone! Sorry it took so long, I was out of town all weekend long and school has been consuming my life!

So the cars done with the welding and cutting, all the flanges match up now and there are no exhaust leaks (again a big thanks to HP for screwing up yet another thing....worst company ever).

I decided on a different route with the fuel system, got all the return system going and that will be buttoned up this week, and have the walbro fuel pumps arriving tomorrow so those will be going in as well. Once that's finished it should be good to go! Just gotta work out a possible battery issue and that's it!

It's an oil catch can/breather...so if you use it your car won't smog unless you know someone as well as you will get a slight oil vapor smell sometimes...but it's amazing, works great, and looks badass!

It's the moroso oil breather

Though I would throw up some pictures I took yesterday while I was at the shop before it was tuned! I thought it looked badass sitting there so I had to take some pictures! I will lower it about 1/4" more in the front and then I think it will sit PERFECT :)

Thank you a ton!! Definitely get on your build! It's so much fun watching things transform!

So went over there and started it up today and got a video of the startup and revving it too! Couldn't rev it too much cuz we had the alternator unhooked....It's insane though...just touching the pedal you can feel the massive power potential and how quickly it revs too! It sounds so freakin' incredible...especially when you're there. I'll have some better vids when it gets the race tune!!
